‘The world will never understand.

NOCTURN’s first professional work ‘nomore’ was a raw, dark and disturbing study of Genie, a modern-day ‘wild child’. Until discovered at the age of 13, she had lived in a state of severe sensory and social deprivation.

Captivated by the Emmy Award-winning documentary ‘Genie: Secret of the Wild Child’, John Darvell, as Associate Choreographer for 4Motion Dance Theatre Company, explored a world of robbed childhood innocence and uneasy playfulness using contemporary dance and animation.

FINDING OUR CREATIVE VOICE.

COMBINING CONTEMPORARY DANCE & TECHNOLOGY.

Three dancers silhouettes turned facing a dark figure.

Set to a haunting score by long-term creative partner John Chambers, audiences observed uncomfortable feelings of extreme entrapment, played out by three female dancers and a single ominous darkened figure.

NOCTURN’s first exploration of collaborating mixed media with multiple art forms to set the artistic tone and direction that became our signature style of work.

A rag doll being held behind the back of a female dancer.
‘Chillingly, uncomfortable and emotionally textured. An energetic epic piece leaving you with more questions than answers.’
